Area job seekers will be given a chance today to meet with potential employers at a Career Resource Expo being held at the Holiday Inn Select Stamford.
"We hope this will give them a sense of hope and being better prepared for what to expect in the job-hunting process," said Melanie Szlucha, one of the event's organizers and president of Norwalk-based career consulting firm Red Inc.
The expo, which will take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., will include talks by career professionals and more than 20 booths set up by career counselors, employers and recruiters, Szlucha said.
"We saw the need for a bigger, educational event for job seekers to create a positive momentum," she said, adding that almost 300 people looking for jobs have registered for the event. "This will bring them all together."
Donna Sweidan, founder of Stamford-based Careerfolk, and Judi Perkins, owner of Find the Perfect Job in Bethel, are helping Szlucha produce the gathering. It is being sponsored by GoliathJobs.com of Stamford and Fairfield CountyJobs.
"Not only will those seeking employment be able to network with each other, but they will also be able to learn while they're here," said Perkins, who refers to herself as the "How-to Job Coach." "We want to give them all of the tools, contacts and resources so they feel more confident in this world of unemployment."
This event demonstrates confidence resuming in the employment sector, said David Mezzapelle, Founder & Director of Marketing for GoliathJobs.
"In addition to the hot areas such as health care, engineering, education, government contracting and green technologies, the overall sector has found its bottom," he said. "We can now look forward to a steady rebound."
